چکیده

A number of important questions in ecology involve the possibility of interactions or "coupling" among potential components of ecological systems. The basic question of whether two components are coupled (exhibit dynamical interdependence) is relevant to investigations of movement of animals over space, population regulation, food webs and trophic interactions, and is also useful in the design of monitoring programs. For example, in spatially extended systems, coupling among populations in different locations implies the existence of redundant information in the system and the possibility of exploiting this redundancy in the development of spatial sampling designs. One approach to the identification of coupling involves study of the purported mechanisms linking system components. Another approach is based on time series of two potential components of the same system and, in previous ecological work, has relied on linear cross-correlation analysis. Here we present two different attractor-based approaches, continuity and mutual prediction, for determining the degree to which two population time series (e.g., at different spatial locations) are coupled. Both approaches are demonstrated on a one-dimensional predator-prey model system exhibiting complex dynamics. Of particular interest is the spatial asymmetry introduced into the model as linearly declining resource for the prey over the domain of the spatial coordinate. Results from these approaches are then compared to the more standard cross-correlation analysis. In contrast to cross-correlation, both continuity and mutual prediction are clearly able to discern the asymmetry in the flow of information through this system.

Geostatistical simulation of RQD variable using investigation of spatial continuity between Quaternary alluvial layer and hard rock of Gohar-Zamin mine to the determination of permeable zones

In this research, a sequential Gaussian simulation method has been used to determine the permeable zones in the hard-rock aquifer of the Gohr-Zamin open pit mine. For this purpose, 4946 RQD data from eighty-seven exploratory boreholes was used and exploratory-spatial data analysis of these data was performed using the preliminary statistics, location maps, histograms and variograms. Results of ...

Investigating the effect of spatial cohesion quality on inputs on bazaar attendance (Case study: Shiraz traditional bazaar)

Understanding an architectural space, by being attendance in that space and experiencing it closely, becomes a part of that space, watching it and moving in it. The attendance of man as the main resident or consumer of architectural space is also a two-way relationship between the human world and his space. The attendance of people gives character to public spaces and strengthens the character ...

Optimized Bacteria are Environmental Prediction Engines

Experimentalists have observed phenotypic variability in isogenic bacteria populations. We explore the hypothesis that in fluctuating environments this variability is tuned to maximize a bacterium’s expected log growth rate, potentially aided by epigenetic markers that store information about past environments. We show that, in a complex, memoryful environment, the maximal expected log growth r...

Prediction of dispersed mineralization zone in depth using frequency domain of surface geochemical data

Discrimination of the blind and dispersed mineralization deposits is a challenging problem in geochemical exploration. The frequency domain (FD) of the surface geochemical data can solve this important issue. This new exploratory information can be achieved using the interpretation of FD of geochemical data, which is impossible in spatial domain. In this research work, FD of the surface geochem...

The role of spatial changes of employment and activity in creating the lack of appropriate urban cores (case study; Tehran)

Background and objective: The spatial structure of cities depends on the different and mutual relationships of all forces and factors in the city. These factors include market forces, activities, urban infrastructures and various services, which always have a complex and reciprocal relationship. In today's world, one of the basic challenges in cities is to create a balanced spatial structure th...
